Right across the river from St. Helens Road and right after you’ve crossed Cathedral bridge, on your right is a humble, little bike shop in the neighborhood of St. Johns, Portland, Oregon. Locally owned and run, Block Bikes has been a staple of the community there, making sure that no matter what you need or what you plan to do, your bike is always safe in their hands.
Block Bikes reached out to me with the idea of running a custom-designed water bottle for a limited time and asked if I could create an illustration for it. I wanted to create an image that incorporated their shop, the iconic Cathedral Bridge, and generate the idea that they’ll get your bike ready for your next adventure while emphasizing their slogan of “Building your bike love.”
To my knowledge, the water bottles have since then sold out. And though I haven’t ridden a bike in many, many, many years, I was gifted one of the bottles once printed, and it rides around with me wherever my four wheels take me.
